Inflate a Tire with a Dunlop Valve
Kalkhoff bikes come equipped from the factory in Germany with tube valves not normally seen in the USA, called Dunlop or Woods valves.
Step-by-step guide
To inflate a Dunlop valve,
- Remove the black plastic cap covering the valve. If there isn't one, ask us for a replacement next time you visit.
- Do not unscrew the silver collar that holds in the valve stem. It's not the end of the world if you do, but it will release all of the air from your tube.
- Use a Presta capable pump or compressor and press or thread it on to the valve. Or, thread on a Presta-to-Schrader adapter to use pumps or compressors designed for typical automotive style valves.
- Inflate to your desired pressure, within the limits specified on the tire sidewall.
- Remove the pump and thread the black plastic cap back on the valve.

Dunlop tubes can be replaced with Schrader tubes, the width of the hole in the rim is the same.
